What is a Vocational Analysis?

Vocational analysis is a method used by a qualified vocational expert to analyze how an individual’s profile aligns with the labor market and job requirements, matching an individual’s specific skills, qualifications, and limitations to suitable positions of employment.

Vocational Analysis

Vocational analysis is commonly used in legal or insurance settings, such as workers’ compensation, personal injury cases, or disability claims.

Assessment. Our vocational experts review academic, employment, financial, and medical records to gain a holistic understanding of an individual’s capacity and suitability for employment.

Method. Our vocational experts utilize the RAPEL method (Weed, 2004), a practical framework for analyzing future care and earnings capacity with five key components: 1) rehabilitation plan, 2) access to the labor market, 3) placeability, 4) earning capacity, and 5) labor force participation.

Functioning. Our vocational experts consider maximum medical improvement, residual functional capacity, and reasonable accommodations to match a person’s abilities and limitations to labor market opportunities.

Earnings. We evaluate the ability to earn wages before and after injury when assessing wage loss, along with worklife expectancy, relying on credible data sources such as the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
